HOW AND WHY ARE YOU DEVIANT?

  1. Once again my fellow classmates, it's been real and quite interesting class discussion! So tonite I will tell you why or how I consider myself, deviant. First of all I consider my past a very important learning experience. This one particular experience was consider a "wake up call" for me. This situation occured and afterward everything was handled by the great judicial system I was labeled by society as a first time felon. So in society eyes I'm considered a "deviant" but to my family, fellow classmate, or stranger on the street I'm just a normal citizen with a clean crimminal background. So I can say that now or to future application that i must fill out, I will have to answer that famous question "Are you a convicted felon?" To them I have or carry that status but also will be included or labled within the secondary deviance. Although I know this might not be accepted by some people in society and those same people, have been socially constructed to beleive all people that have a felony are bad, can't be trusted, or will continue to violate laws. In my eyes or beliefs I don't consider myself deviant but yes i have deviant ways!

  2. hmmmmmmmmmm....i'm deviant because I beG to be different. Just because something is right and normal to society doesn't mean that it is to me. Like we discussed in class on monday, there are many different things that we do that make us deviant.whrether it is something small or disagreement with a teacher or even something major committing a crime

  5. Somebody wants to pick there nose is ok but why do you really want to do it in front of other. Is there a joy that you get from it? What makes you not care what someone thinks of you? Do you feel that someone or something let you down is this why? What are some of the things do you think care change your way of thinking? AC

  6. Deviant behavior is neither bad or good. I believe I was consider to be deviant for the last week class blog. I voice my opinion and got my head chopped off. To conclude from last week I am not trying to condemn anyone yes I believe God loves everyone. Also someone mention that I should not judge a person based on that reason. I am not trying to judge anyone because I am not the judge.

  9. Hello everyone!! I have to admit to engaging in a deviant act when I was younger around the age of 18. I use to work in a convenient store and me and another co-worker became really close. (She trusted me and I trusted her)However, we would plan to go to the club the same night we'd work, but the only problem was we did not have any money. So, we take advantage of the fact that we had access to the office that way we could view how the cameras were positioned and with that we would pocket "alot of money". That meant we had enough to split, buy an outfit, and get inside the club. However, we also didn't have to worry about getting a buzz either because we had access to the "cooler". Those were the days!! So, now that I am older I would dare to dream of committing that type of deviance act ever again.

  10. Hello Johnny! I read your story and I understand how society believed that you were deviant(though that is not right). However, because of the "choices" that you made and participated in, you then were faced with a "label" as well by society. The one question that I have is at the end of the story about your past experience: you still considered yourself as being deviant. Is that because "society" labeled you as being deviant(acceptance of the label) or is that you knew within your ownself that you were none other than deviant already?..A.Sunshine

  11. I am Deviant because, all of my family live in California and/or Texas, and I chose to move my family to North Carolina. This was against the ideas that my mom and dad taught me and my brothers and sisters. They taught us that family should always stick together. Be around each other so that the cousins know one another. Basically, I left the family circle so that my son and daughter would have a better chance in life, and not have to deal with the rough streets of Los Angeles.
Although I have been deviant, it was for a good cause.

  12. One picking their nose in public is just gross. Ha! I guess we all can do what we want. *Smile
I would like to know, what is the difference in being deviant and having bad manners. Is it the same thing?

  13. I definately agree with stefany, even though it is quite digusting to see someone pick their nose in public, it is also their will to do so if they want. I mean who are we to jugde someone who picks their nose or let alone "anything" else. There is no difference between being deviant and having bad manners because the two are controlled by our actions. An otherwords we control whether we want to have good manners or bad manners.

  14. I feel I've came a long way from my days in the street trying to be a gang banger. I would've consider myself deviance. The criminal activity I've gotten myself into made me deviant to society. But I was just lucky enough not to get a case. Now, I live my life straight in society eyes I'm just your average everyday citizen. I feel Johnnie got the bad in of the stick with the street life because he has an felony charge. I was fortune to remove myself b4 I got into deep. I've turn my negative action into positive reinforcement in my society. Allowing myself another way out of the situation I got myself into. . . It a cycle that needed to be broken b/c generation after generation you continue seeing how society treat those individuals. It the life they had chose to live by. I know longer wanted to be apart. Great counselor and a positive role model is what it made me today.

  15. I'm commenting on A. Sunshine its crazy how a lot of deviant thing we do are mostly in our teenage year. why is that? I think deviance is all about the culture in which you grow around. B/c you knew that wasn't the right thing to do. But it was the most accomplish able thing you came up with. I don't even think that's a work, I hope you understand what I'm trying to said. We do thing that was not acceptable in our society. But we got a way with it, well at less some of use did. . .

  16. With comments concerning Sunshine's response I didn't accept the fact of being labeled a felon by society but that label not only made me rethink those actions but also made me refocus things about life. With that refocusing it made or refocus that energy towards a change, a change where i would not only focus more on my sons plans about life but those of other young kids in the community. With trust, that word along will make you lose focus on what is plan but only you can refocus your mental to make that plan into action. I trusted a friend, and in return I took the charge. So i agree with you although society labeled me a deviant or a person who commited a deviant act but I will not accept that label. So now I must "reach One to teach One!"

  17. Hello Kenny!! I understand where you are coming from and thanks for taking the time out to read "my past experience". I noticed that the difference in life is when you make one. And yes alotttt of us have submitted to many deviant acts when we were younger, but once reality appoaches us (maturity) that is when we take a step back and look at things in a different light (more positively plus the "consequences" too). However, I definitely have to take this time out to say that you are a very wise and intelligent person. I listen to you in class all the time and the positive points in which you make. I would like to wish you the best in life with accomplishing your goals and becoming the best role model one can be!!

  18. Hey this is Tiffany. I guess that I would be considered a deviant becaus I go gainst the norms when it comes to people. I have a strong dislike for seeing people being mistreated by others. This often means me saying something to the person with the foul behavior. I now we have come a long way in this society, but there are still people who will not stand up for themselves. Now petty things, I often let go, but not big things. I usually end up in trouble at work because of this. When everyone else is sittig with their mouths shut looking stupid, usually I have to say something. Some people feel as though they can do or say what they like regardless of how it may make others feel, and that's not right.

  19. Hey Johnnie this is Tiffany, in spite of your past mishaps, you are doing a great job! This is our 2nd class together and you always seem to impress me. Maybe, it took that for you to get it together for now. You are a great guy and terrific student. Keep up the good work and all that you deserve will come to you.
