  1. Tiffany says "WOW." That's what I am talking about. WE know of the inequalities, we see it everyday. What is amazing is hat it is allowed. I understand that healthcare is important, our children's education is as well. If those imbalances remain, there will never be equality and equal oppurtunity.

  4. This subject is very personal for me. As I stated in class, I experienced this issue first hand when I was 15.

A person is normally a product of their environment. When I was 15 years old, instead of focusing on my future, and understanding I could be whatever I wanted to be, I was focusing on "Surviving" everyday at an inner city school that had limited resources.

Just as in the video, everything at my inner city school was out dated and broke. Once my mom sent me to live with my older sister, who lived in the affluent "Brentwood community", my life changed drastically. Instead of worrying about gang banging, smoking and hanging out, I began to focus on excelling in life and being happy.

I also can relate to the grade issue. Although I never attended class at the inner city school, I had a GPA of 3.8 there. I guess they were doing whatever they had to do to get rid of me. Upon entering my new school, they thought I was a genius. Truth of the matter, I was nothing more then an uneducated baddass, that was angry at the world.

Thank goodness, my mother had enough intelligence and love for me, in spite of myself, to do what was best for me and save my life.

When I watched the video, it brought back allot of memories and old emotions for me. I think it's sad that the educational system is not equal in the resources it provides for students. It's not fair that the educational system is so different in one part of the city then the other, based on property value and taxes. Everyone pays taxes in one form or another and should be entitled to the same educational resources.

This need to change ASAP, so that everyone can be all they want to be and not be restricted by politics and limited resources.

  5. Responding to Tiffany's post:

I agree with you completely Tiffany.
I think it takes high profile people like Oprah, Sharpton and others to bring these issue to light. With the onset of modern technology, issues like inequality in education and health care is no longer hidden and it should no longer be acceptable and/or ignored. It's just shameful for these issues to exist in a country that is so rich as the USA.

  6. Hey this is Tiffany. Thanks for your reaponse Stefany. I cna also relate to a degree with you. My question is this, we have come so far, why are we sill so far behind? IS it that whites need to accept us as they accept each other, or , is it that we need t care more about .us than we do? Something has to change

  7. this is precious....i watched the video and it made me feel really sad because i have been in well i have seen a situation like this i went to wealthier highschool and just 15 minutes away was another school that was in the hood and really beat down they had less then we did and tghis video made me think of that and how the society works and they way some kids are given less. it i really sad i also watched some other videos on trding schools and i really think that something musst be down to stop this or at least make correction no one person should be treated any better than another because of racial status money or what have you we all are created equal so why not be treated equal???

  8. Responding to Tiffany:

I think the issue is, we as a people, accept little and ask for too much. I know for a fact, other nationalities bug the heck out of their congressmen and senators. I believe we lack the togetherness and aggressiveness we need to get better responses from our representatives.

There are so many opportunities out there, we just need to be a stronger voice in demanding better resources instead of staying home and not being pro active on issues, waiting for someone to bring the opportunity to us.

And those of us who are fortunate enough to get out, as in my case, need to give back to the neighborhood. Really the only thing one needs to make it in life is just one opportunity. I think one opportunity would make a difference in a lot of lives.

  9. It just hurts me to my heart to view the many privileges that one race has over another. I just don't understand why something can not be done so that everyone has the same opportunity to succeed or at least take a stand to fight for equality. However, I feel at times that maybe those individuals that do not know what life is like on the other side of the field (living in poverty, receiving a poor education or none at all, etc.) should at least explore it, therefore, there may be some sort of compassion and they will be willing to help to the best of their ability to at least give someone a chance to accomplish a dream or goal.
